EVO question regarding VIII FQ 400
Anyone here know how to tell if this really is a FQ 400 engine (in the attached photo; "FQ 400" can be seen in the radiator area)? Dyno test would tell. I'm going to talk to someone else tomorrow about the car to hopefully find out more. Thanks.
i don't believe that's a true FQ400, but don't quote me on it. the reason i say i don't believe it's really an FQ400 is the intercooler piping, right where it goes into the intake manifold (between the engine and firewall). iirc, the FQ400 had a bunch of HKS parts, including intercooler piping. the section of piping where it goes into the intake manifold should be hard piping all the way to a silicone coupling. in the pic you posted, the hard pipe ends at the battery and then has a rubber hose that goes from there, bends around, and then connects to the manifold. meaning, that's the stock (non-FQ400) intercooler piping.
besides, a sticker in an engine bay is the last thing you should trust
