Question Question to those of you who have performed a coolant flush

All,

As a last step to my thermostat housing replacement I want to flush my cooling system and fill with new coolant.
Since this is supposed to be a 'lifetime' coolant, there is not so much information available, even the owner's manual doesn't mention coolant capacity.

Question # 1 : does anybody know how much coolant goes into the Gen 1 V8 car (4S or Turbo models) ?

Now on to the drain procedure.
Radiator : today we drained the radiators of a 4S and Turbo S which were being serviced in the same shop. We obtained consistent coolant dumps of slightly below 1.5 gallons. Identical results across both cars, which is good news.
Now on to the block. This where it got iffy. We squeezed the pipes between the block and the radiator and in addition introduced compressed air into the filler neck. In addition we may have caught a quart when we released the water pump as part of the thermostat housing replacement.
Overall, it doesn't feel like we were able to drain much more than 2.5 gallons. What am I missing ? My 911 Turbo holds 5 gallons...granted that the radiators are upfront and that the plumbing runs all the way to the back, but still though...

Question #2 : anybody got an optimal procedure to get all of the coolant out of both the radiator and block ?

Filling : no concern, I use the "Airlift UView 5000", which collapses the hoses and then sucks new coolant into any empty space, works like wonders.

Thank you in advance for your input !

Wow, typically I'm pretty good with finding information but with this....nothing. Can't believe they don't have the coolant/antifreeze capacity posted anywhere. Even on the owners manual says coolant capacity on the Table of Contents but when you turn to the page, nothing. Only oil, gas, and windshield washer fluid capacities. Thanks for tackling the thermostat housing with Dogwood. I'll keep looking around to see if there's a definite capacity, I'll dig deeper on the Cayenne sections and see if I find any.

1. 28 liters.
2. Vacuum filling apparatus.

Need container large enough to hold 30L as you want to have 2L more than needed to fill the system. (Per instructions).

2. Open coolant cap. Raise bleeder valve clip to service position
Drain from radiator drain plug.
If you are going to drain again as in flush:
Disconnect coolant hoses (both) from oil/water heat exchanger and collect
Disconnect small hose beside generator and collect
Disconnect hose for coolant reservoir in left wheel housing and collect
Disconnect hose for run-on pump in left wheel housing and collect.
Fit hoses and radiator drain plug.

Thanks, really helpful.
Now just need to be able to find the generator and run-on pump (?). It's crowded in there, esp on a turbo.
Will report back.

Been looking at the Subaru Ascent, Hyundai Palisade, and Kia Telluride, but my wife has a Tesla Y 7 seater reservation. I believe I'll get to do the coolant change and possibly upper control arm before she's gone...

This is what careful research told me, BUT I have not confirmed with an actual change. I did purchase the (fresh coolant) fill tank and it’s pretty darn big. (30L I believe)…

I did a vaccum fill after draining my system to replace the coolant vent line under the intake manifold on my 970 Turbo. It took just under 2 gals of 50/50. Oh, and yes with a vacuum fill you can stop mid procedure to refill or swap to a different container. Just don't let the lines get air in them.

ahh good to know… however my 3 gal of pure antifreeze arrived. Now I have 6 gals worth of 50/50. I’ll make extra just to be safe I suppose.

Used the airlift 550000 and it took up a little less (~2quarts) than 2 gallons of distilled water.

2 gallons of coolant would be perfect.

I took me approx 2,7 gallons to fill my 970 GTS. Coolant refill was done using vacuum.
