Auxiliary Reverse light
OEM reverse brightness isn't that great. Tinting the rear window, plus smoking the taillights made it even harder to see out the back. Couldn't change to brighter reverse bulbs because I had the sealed hatch.
Oznium had weatherproof, LED floodlights and gave them a try. Bought two and mounted them (comes with 3M adhesive) on either side of the license plate frame. Wired to the taillight electrical connector (+ blue/blk, - brown). Before and after pictures from outside and inside (excuse blurriness). https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...39a640ba29.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...b6e8da1901.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...6fd68080d6.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...dab155bfeb.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...17235b279d.png https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...d5174ac16c.png |
Big improvement for sure, great job hiding the wires! I like that you placed the lights about the same height of the camera. Very nice solution, I’m sure plenty of Peeps here are going to be interested. Thanks for sharing!

Wow - those look really bright. Nice work!

very nice, bright and good clean install

Good job, but not possible with European number plates ... :(

negb the part # is PHIL16W, but before you buy anything you'll want to make sure you can change them, seems not all the cars have the little access hatch you need to do a bulb swap

'DogWood' - big Thanks !

970gts, do you have a link or any more info you can share on these lights, I'd like to get a pair as it seems like a good solution. I think I found them https://www.oznium.com/led-flood-and...-led-spotlight. Are these the ones you have and if so, do you have the 1 or 3 watt ones?
|
I bought the FLOOD, not the spotlight.
3 watt in Neutral White https://www.oznium.com/led-flood-and...led-floodlight |
Ok, Thanks. how did you run/hide the wires? Did you drill holes behind the lights or? Also did you cut the original reverse light wires or splice into them? Sorry for all the questions and thanks for the help.
|
mounted the lights on up high on either side of the license plate frame with wires pointed up. Spliced the wires from each light together to one set of wires. Then tucked the wires under the gasket and fed it towards a taillight assembly (left or right, your choice). Then spliced into the correct wires leading into the taillight connector.

Great idea 970gts. I have been considering something similar. I have a 2014 with the newer lights that have no access, so I can't swap in different ones. I assume they are LED already. And still not enough light back there at night. So it was nice to see it done and what it might look like. Question for everyone. I think part of the issue is just the poor quality of the rear camera. Even in daylight things seem blurry-ish. Is that normal? Or is my camera just on the fritz?
|
Have you tried cleaning the lens? It could have some dirt or film on it.
|
Yea. It’s not dirt. Just everything is sort of blurry and just seems not quite in focus. Wondering if it’s like that for everyone. Like just a byproduct of a lower res camera. Or if my cam is on the fritz.
