I do it every 2 or 3 months.
Drive to store, buy 2 cans of engine degreaser heavy duty.
Drive to self car wash, park car with engine on, open hood.
Put in all quarters except one into the machine and set for rinse (it wont start until you insert the last outstanding quarter)
Spray the heck out of the entire engine compartment with degreaser, be very liberal here and quick. Have both cans ready and spray anything in the bay, avoiding direct spray onto belts, all else fair play. Get every part of bay you can, be thorough.
Wait for 30 seconds or so, then Insert last quarter into machine, that will start the rinse cycle (keep eye on the engine bay for smoking). Preferably do this while engine is not too hot yet, or (as I often do, spray bay with water that will cool it down some before you apply degreaser).
After rinsing turns on, from distance, start rinsing entire engine bay, start at back, work all nooks and crannies. Be thorough and have extra quarters ready to insert before you run out of time.
After you finish rinsing, use cloth to wipe off black trim on top of engine.
Close hood, go for a 20 minute drive on highway, to dry the entire thing out.
You are done.
Next day, if you desire, you can open hood and detail black parts with black restore (just the trim, nothing on engine), then use shine clear spray to add shine to the engine (spray the gun engine detail onto cold engine very conservatively - little goes long way). You can leave to dry before you drive car, or you can use cloth to wipe for dull finish.
Wait for engine to dry well before you drive.
Done until next time.
Entire bay is considered wet area, so water is not going to hurt anything, just avoid direct spraying onto belts to they dont start sliding and wearing.
