Shift linkage ball joint broken

Troubleshooting a shifter moves tranny dosen't engage problem on my 2013. No tranny error codes on either Durametric or Por2 so I was hopeful it was a mechanical problem. I just did the big trans shift sensor replacement last August and that was a PIA and expensive (well way less than it coulda been thx to Ciaka's DIY). Pulled the modesty cover off checked around the trans case and see my linkage is off the ball. Any quick tips on this? Is the plastic piece that broke a distinct part? If so, anyone have a part number or correct name of it so I can search? I would hate to have to replace the whole cable. Any help is appreciated.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share an update! So, after some digging around, I found out that the broken part is called a "shift cable bushing." Luckily, I managed to find it on Amazon, although eBay also had some available.

Now, here's the interesting part: instead of taking apart the transmission, I figured out a workaround. I used a dremel to carefully sand off the front lip and outside diameter of the bushing so that it would fit through the cable hole. After that, I lightly oiled it up, held it in place with a pair of long nosed needle pliers, slid it through the cable, and popped it on using the see-saw leverage of a screwdriver head. Voila! It worked perfectly.

Just thought I'd share in case anyone else runs into a similar issue!

Take care
