Anyone upgrade the rear speakers inside the subwoofer box?
I just picked up the oem rear subwoofer box from a fellow 6speedonline member. I plan on completely removing my door speakers (long story why), and just have bass from the rear subwoofer. I'm not looking for extreme bass but something more modern then 2001 porsche audio system.
Has anyone upgraded the 5" speakers in the subwoofer box? What did you go with? How were the results?
My plan is to upgrade the amp, head unit and eventual dash and rear speakers.
I didn't quite go that way... I'm not sure how big the Bose box is, but I added JL Audio 6.5" subs (qty 2 - in the middle) in an enclosure that I made myself. The subs sound great - if they would fit in the OEM Bose box, that would be an option...
I actually did not upgrade the rear "subs" in the stock Bose box. I just gave them better power and signal from a JL audio amp and Pioneer head unit. They actually sound pretty good -- bass is tight and quite clean. I did upgrade the dash speakers, though. I had a long discussion with the stereo installer, and I decided to leave the stock sub box speakers alone. The turbo is a poor sonic environment anyway, given all the tire and engine noise. In a quieter car, I would be more concerned, but the current set-up works well.
Thanks Toynbee. I'll be installing a better amp and radio soon, along with a stock subwoofer. My car didn't come with one so I recently bought one from 32krazy!
I'm sure it will be sufficient for my audio needs. Glad yours does the job.
