This is a 2003.5 model with a June 2003 production date, the first month for the 2003.5 production and upgrades: LED tail lights, trunk handle extended. It also has the factory front strut bar (standard mid-2002), and revised HVAC controls (standard 2003).
See http://m3.madrussian.net/modelchanges.shtml for M3 changes by model year.
The original delivery date was August of 2003. I purchased the car in October of 2005, from Zimbrick BMW in Madison, Wisconsin. It had 37,000 miles.
The rod bearing recall was performed by Zimbrick BMW immediately prior to my purchase. I had to go through the break-in period when I got it, and the car carries the BMW engine warranty in addition to the BMW CPO warranty. Both expire August of 2009 or 100k miles.
Tires-
OEM Continental Contisports, installed in 2007, w/under 10k miles and plenty of tread. Wheels have minor marks and curb rash but are straight and presentable.
Extra wheels with snow tires available-
17” ASA JH3 wheels w/Dunlop Wintersport M3 snow tires, used 15k miles and plenty of tread. Price: $500.
The car is in very good overall condition, but has minor wear and tear commensurate with the age and mileage.
All body panels are original, but the front bumper cover was replaced due to a very low-speed incident. The car was backed into at International Auto, a BMW dealer in Milwaukee, by a customer, while it was waiting to be picked up after a software upgrade.
The paint work was excellent and if anything it improved the appearance given the minor road rash that the original bumper had. This happened in November of 2006.
The car has been well maintained, with M-specific Castrol 10W-60 synthetic oil changes more frequently than the required intervals (15k), usually in the 7-8k mile range. Inspection II w/valve adjustment performed March, 2008.
Most of the maintenance has been performed by Factory Certified BMW Master Technician Jim Kadow of European Auto Haus in Mequon. Warranty work has been performed at local dealers. I have all records since my purchase.
Contact me via PM with any questions.

**Important Update**
I just picked the car up from Zimbrick BMW this afternoon.
The service engine light had come on and indicated a catalytic converter fault and a VANOS fault.
Zimbrick replaced the headers, which include the cats, and the VANOS system. In addition, they noticed that the rear springs were broken. Both rear springs were replaced. All of this was done at no cost under the BMW CPO Warranty!
Finally, they noticed that the engine drive belts were worn, but still in working order. I had those replaced at my expense, just to make the car perfect for a new owner.
These are the two major high-dollar failures that occur in E46 M3s. To replace the cats and VANOS out of warranty is close to $10,000. Both have been addressed by the dealer.
Current mileage is now just over 83,000.
This car is a very good deal at $24,000, and a much better value than other M3s of similar vintage that still have their original cats and VANOS.
