Tire cord showing -question

How prone a tire is to explode when the cord is showing? 295-30-18 tires seem to be very rare in my country, I had to order a pair from Germany to get them for a reasonable price. Shipping will take 10 days.

I would like to careafully drive to work (7 miles) - rather than walk or take the buss. What lies underneath the cord? The cord is not showing 100% all around inside edge of my rears but most of way. Driving speed will not exceed 50 miles per hour being under 40 miles per hour most of time.

How many miles have you driven cord showing?

Enjoy the walk. Your taking your life in your hands running on corded tires. If you blow a tire you could also damage a wheel that would cost a lot more.

You will be fine. The risk is near nothing if you drive normal, and those few miles for the rest of the week.

I realize it would be wize to play it safe. However I find it very interesting to know experience or estimates on how many miles of careafull slow driving could be obtained when cords start to show.

Cords showing situation may come as a surprise for a TT owner. Lets say one is on a road trip somewhere where the nearest tire shop with 295-30-18 tires on the rack is 100 or more miles away.

To drive slowly or to call a tow-truck?

Really, you will be fine. I have done a track session for 30 mins and drove home 160 miles with tires WAY worse then that. I didn't realize how badly they were corded untill i stopped at the gas station before heading home. Even then I wasen't in fear of a blow out. Tires are built strong. You will be fine my friend.

I Had worse too! One let go on me at 65mph on the highway. It just let the air out, did not explode or anything crazy. Not sure on telling you to drive the car though.

Definitely do it! .... drive as many miles as possible until the tire blows up, thats a genius move..... and if you haven't blown the tire before the new tires come in, you should try and see how many burnouts you can do in front of the tire shop until it blows. Maybe you'll break a whole bunch of other things and really get lucky!

My Land Rover (much heavier) had just about the same amount showing for the last 3 weeks. I commute 100 miles.

I just replaced them.

Those 60-70 miles should be driven carefully. Avoid roads with debris since you don't want to have a popped tire

In my younger days I had a ford ranger which the front end was way out of alignment and couldn't afford to fix the tires at the time cords showing on edge of both tires so I put em on the back and ended up putting an entire winters worth of driving it Asa cable guy with the Ned packed with gear. Use your head and becareful, pot holes n debris can change things in an Instant.
I'm not telling you to drive it just sharing a personal story I had more cord showing.

While I think you'd be fine driving on that tire the downside of something happening is potentially devastating. What happens if something does happen and there are injuries involved or worse? You'd be held grossly negligent, endangering public safety and be paying for it the rest of your life. Step back from the inconvenience of walking or riding the bus for a week and look at the larger picture of protecting your assets and public safety. Good risk assessment would suggest parking your ride until the tires come in. IMHO
