Farewell 997.2 TTS...welcome 991.1 GT3

Never thought the day would come when I would sell the TTS but that day came! Traded in the TTS for a 2016 GT3 w/ 2,700 miles (highly optioned with an MSRP $175K). Long story short, I am on the list for a 991.2 GT3 (PDK) and was expecting a Spring 2018 delivery. My SA called to inform me that my Spring 2018 delivery was moved back to Oct/Nov 2018 . Rather than wait a whole year, I decided to buy a 991.1 GT3 now and re-purpose my .2 GT3 allocation for a MY2019 991.2 GT3RS (if Porsche builds it).

The TTS was/is an amazing car and I would like to thank all 6Speeders on the 997 Turbo / GT2 forum, from whom I learned more about our amazing cars than I ever thought possible. I won't be far, I'll be in the GT3 forum (here and on Rennlist) and will continue to pop in the 997 turbo section...once a forced induction guy, always a forced induction guy (even if I strayed over to the NA side...for a while)!

Gone but never forgotten + new GT3...my kids call her "Nemo"

Congrats! I sold my .1 GT3 a couple months ago in anticipation of my .2 GT3 showing up early next year. You are going to love it. Such an amazing machine. It is so much more of an event to drive than a turbo, regardless of the extra power. The sound is just sensational. Enjoy it!

I'm been on the fence for several months about trading into a 2015/16 GT3 from my TTS. Is it worth it?

Wow. Nice Turbo S! I’m sure that wasn’t an easy decision but that GT3 is total nicies.

Btw - those BBS Wheels on the Turbo set that car off sooooooo right. Only Wheels I would opt to swap out on my Turbo.

Congrats, I am doing the same. Selling 991TT and getting a .1 GT3.

Can’t wait to hear your impressions as you drive it more.

Oregonian is on a distinguished road
Congrats on the new purchase! Did you pick up that stunning 2016 GT3RS in UV from Porsche of North Olmstead?

Edit- oops, I just noticed that one went to NJ but not to you.

Thanks A418, you are absolutely right!! On the drive back I got the opportunity to hit some high rpm's and this engine is simply fabulous! It doesn't have the low end thrust and torque of the turbo however about 4K rpm this engine is simply glorious!! The exhaust note at 8K+ rpm has to be experienced to believe, one cannot describe it adequately. It's going to be a fun year of ownership.

Hi Sam, thanks! She was one clean 997 TTS, with only the best (IMHO) mods. Not over the top but enough to bring out the best in her. I'll be in touch as I decide on bits for the GT3.

Is it worth it? My early drive says definitely...I'll be at VIR w/ NNJR PCA at the end of the month and I'll be in a much better position to answer that more objectively as I ran VIR with the turbo last year. One thing I will say is, you won't regret it as the 991 chassis is so much more compliant than that in the 997...it's the first thing I noticed. This car rides and handles beautifully, miles better than my 997!

Thanks djillusion. It wasn't easy. Even after returning the car to stock, I found myself questioning my decision on the drive to the dealership to pick up the GT3! Each time I pushed the throttle, the memories came back. It's a car I'll never forget! The GT3 is a lovely consolation though! The BBS FI-Rs are fantastic wheels, they'll be going on the GT3 in a few days

Thanks! I'll be sure to share my impressions after my trip to VIR. I'll put the GT3 through its paces, in its natural habitat (the track) and then provide driving impressions. So far, the high revving engine is a blast and the exhaust note is at 8K+ rpm is glorious! I can't wait to install the GMG exhaust bypass to unleash more of that exhaust note!

Thanks Oregonian! I'm lurking for a 991.2 GT3RS...If my allocation falls to one, I'll snap it up!

Thanks SeattleTurbo. Your view is shared by many, myself included. With the 100K engine warranty, the .1 GT3 is the perfect track weapon. It's characteristics are fabulous to begin with but the warranty makes it a 'no brainer' for some spirited fun driving at the track.

I tracked my Black Series at VIR but haven't taken my TTS there yet. I'd be very interested in your GT3 track impressions when you return. Thanks

Congrats brother and see you on RL. GT3 is my favorite car to drive. The connection and emotional experience unmatched by any other car I’ve driven.

The TTS was amazing at VIR last year, it was my first time there and my PB was a 2:10. I'm hoping to run a sub 2:10 in the GT3! I will definitely provide driver impressions between the TTS and the GT3...be on the lookout for a thread on it when I get back. They are both incredible cars!

Adam, my brother!!! Thanks on the wishes on the GT3! Apart from the 991 TTS in your stable, we are charting a similar path...997 TTS to 991 GT3. I agree the GT3 is an incredible car...I haven't put it through its full paces yet, however early indications suggest that you are spot-on "unmatched" is shaping up to be an accurate description of the emotional experience behind the wheel.

I'll see you on RL brother...the GT3 forum there appears to be more active than the GT3 forum here on 6Speed!

miss the torque?

I have been lurking for a GT car but worried that I will miss the torque blast of the TT. Has that been an issue at all for you?

I suppose one has to acknowledge that they are very different weapons and just be honest with what attributes mean the most.

The GT cars obviously do much better at resale. Nice car you have and that .2 GT3 incoming will be yet another upgrade for sure.
