Opinons on Tubo Sport Exhuast for 997.1 Turbo?

My title was in error I ment to say TUBI - is this a great Italian sports exhaust or all hype ?

It is hard to get a feel for the sound of these exhausts with you tube clips.

I am hoping to pick up a few hp and also make the car sound louder and more sporty

Wanted to get some feedback from those who may have some experience before I dump $4,500 on an exhaust

Thanks

I have a catless one I'm about to list for sale.

They were like $5,000 new,.. but they go for less than $1,500 used I think.

I went to a Kline,.. as at higher power levels the Kline makes more power (I'm at 625 wheel on pump,.. and perhaps 700 with the meth switched on).

The Tubi is a bit loud on startup,.. but not so it would annoy your neighbors. It's fine when cuising around normally,.. but gets quite loud when you floor it.

Sound-quality wise;
From the driver's seat it sounds AMAZING when going through the rev range at light to medium throttle,.. but at high boost it sounds merely good.

If you're in the next car over (according to friends I have ra,... uh,.. driven with) ,.. it's very loud at full throttle, and sounds like a very fast car you wouldn't want to try to race,.. but not exactly a sexy sound.

And I heard it from a distance once when a racer friend tested out my new suspension at a track,... and when it was 1/4 mile away on the back stretch, it almost sounded like a truck.

Hope that helps.

Does not sound too promising ? Is there no prancing horse magic in these Tubi style units or is it all style?

I have been reading about europipe but it seems they have no dealers here in the US?

Its worrying me that it seems that many people are telling tales of swapping out exhausts

Well,.. sound in regular driving from the cockpit is the best I've yet heard.

Sound at full throttle from the cockpit is quite good, It's only odd at a distance. So if impressing passers by while you're at full throttle is an issue,.. then it wont be your cup of tea. (It's a turbo six,.. not a Ferrari flat-plane V8,... even Tubi can't make it sound like a 430 LOL)

That said,.. it is the best design I have yet seen from an install and maintenance perspective.

Both the tip-pipes and the tubes from the turbos connect with V-Bands,... so there's no gaskets. This also gives you a lot of adjust-ability. Want the tips to protrude more or less? No problem. Want them higher or lower, no problem.

The rear O2 sensors mount to extension tubes,.. to help with CEL's (though any good tuner will probably have these shut off).

And welds are excellent,.. etc.

So if you're at 550 WHP or below,. it's a great choice.

I have modded turbos,.. huge inter-coolers (By Design Auto), ID1000's, DO88 turbo inlet tubes, IPD 74mm plenum, an Aquamist methanol system, etc, etc, etc ,... and finally just out-grew it power wise. Probably a bit over 800 crank now.

Absolutely loved my tubi race exhaust. I would have kept it had I not needed to go larger exhaust piping. The tubi sport will not be as aggressive as the race

Thank you Speed Tech - I will check them out

Reading through the forums it amazes me how many people have spent several thousands on an exhaust system and then only had to take it off - suffer a loss and put another system on

It seems like these turbo cars just do not sound good and an exhaust is not that easy a solution to get the sound I want

The question is to find the exhaust which gives the best drive around town qualities while providing a sportier and louder sound at WOT under boost

So far the EuroPipe and the Kline seem to have the highest customer satisfaction ratings

Although the Europipe is certainly not a bargain due to the most costly materials it uses and its Country of origin

At the end of the day is saving a few $ one way or the other going to make the difference

It is a shame as my 997.1 C2 had an easy and simple $150 exhaust fix that gave ne great sound

For sure there is a "Porsche tax" effect here. Even with the aircooled Porsches, one can get a high-quality stainless exhaust in the $900-1200 range, granted that does not include cats which are fairly costly but off-the-shelf mass-produced components. I love my EP2 but it literally cost more for that exhaust alone than the entire fully complete and drivable 914 I built into my racecar...kinda crazy when you think about it that way.

Main thing I am hearing and seeing is that many people are satisfied with the EP units sound and quality - while the price point is a bit high

While it seems that there seem to be many who are not satisfied with the Tubi sound on the 997 and have taken them off

The Kline also seems to get great reviews and is one that is much less expensive than the EP

It seems just upon my observation that the EP is the better in build quality and the Kline seems to have the weight and price advantage

One thing I don't want to do is spend between $3,000 to $4,200 on an exhaust - install it and then not be happy with the results

That is certainly a huge positive - a vendor who stands behind the product with a satisfaction guarantee

Thanks for all the feedback guys. This is certainly a great forum. I have a lot of thinking to do. Will update after I have made a choice

One I have ruled out is Tubi - after reading a lot of threads they seem to have a lot of bad comments on the sound quality

There are some others which have plusses and minuses
