Excessive oil found in the intercooler (one side only)

Hi,

Car is 2002 996 turbo. When changing the coils and spark plugs, the intercooler were removed. The left intercooler has a lot of oil in it, about 300cc of it. The right side intercooler is dry. Is this indicative of a turbo failure or what? Please help.

ps. Boost to 0.6, 0.7 can be achieved.

Thanks!

The check valve may be malfunctioning or the turbo bearing could be worn out. Check the turbo shaft for play.

I had both sides swimming in oil, and you'll likely find oil in the intake plenum as well. In my case it was a failed turbo seal (or maybe both).

Second the failed turbo seal diagnosis. I would pull out the inter cooler, charge pipe and throttle body for a thorough cleaning as welll.

Where is the turbo seal located? I’m familiar with the location of the check valves near the turbo but not the “turbo seal”. Thanks for your help.

mine did the same **** and the culprit was the engine oil was overfilled i drained all the oil out of the crankcase and then no more oil in my intercoolers, filter or diverter valves. I checked the oil and it was right in the middle after i drained all that out.
