3.6 and 3.8 exhausts compatible ?

Does anybody here know if the 997 exhausts cans are interchangeable ? I would assume they are but wondering if anyone knows for sure.

Targa4sg550 is an unknown quantity at this point
Yes. You can take a 3.8 exhaust and put on a 3.6.

And vice versa ? Reason why I'm asking is that I saw a gundo'd 3.6 muffler and was thinking of slapping it on my 3.8

Final pipe out of the muffler is a smaller diameter on the 3.6L. This means 3.8L tips fit on a 3.6L muffler using an adapter. But 3.6L tips do not fit on a 3.8L

Adding link to adapter: https://www.fvd.net/us-en/FVD111997A...-tips-2pc.html

Ok that works. I'll use my existing 3.8 tips.

With the pipe diameter of the 3.6 muffler outlet being smaller, using 3.6 mufflers on a 3.8 motor will restrict the flow a bit. Will it effect performance, I'm not sure, but there's probably a reason Porsche used the larger piping on the larger motor.
