Headlight Lens Replacement/Refurbishment
Hello All,
Looked at a potential purchase 2010 V8V yesterday and one of the only let downs was that both headlight lenses were scratched to hell from abrasive cleaners. They were not misty or foggy, just covered in really fine scratches ... a lot of them.
Question - Are people able to refinish these lenses (maybe polish the plastic back to new and replace the UV protective coating) or are you able to purchase JUST the replacements clear lens?
I do not think a headlight restoration kit would work since it's not a foggy or misty residue on the lens.
In looking, it appears as though the only option is to replace the entire front headlight(s) for a coupe of grand (USD) per side?
Sorry if this has been covered before.
Thanks,
Matt.

Scratches are most likely from car wash brushes. Theoretically it is do-able to sand them out. I've done this on an X5 light lense that I then covered. It might be easier to source a set of used lights on Ebay from a breaker. There are several listed.

You have a few options
Technically yes, you can polish them out with finer and finer materials (start with high grit sandpaper, then go to a buffing wheel with high cut compound then fine cut compound) then find a UV coating or get them clear coated.
You can also start the easy way and buy the Sylvania headlight restore kit. It's only about 20 bucks, and has 400/1000/2000 sandpaper plus a toothpaste pre-treat and then a UV clear coat. It'll really make your headlights look like new, for cheap. On a daily driver, you'll probably have to re-do them about every 2 years, but it's well worth it for the cost.
