I originally bought this kit for my 996 Turbo. I believe the longer (5") threaded mount is for the 996 ("normal" threads), while the shorter (2.5") threaded mount was for my 991.1 (reverse threads).
The plastic plate mount can be attached with included hardware a variety of ways. Part of the plastic mount is missing (see photos), but this does not impact its rigidity significantly or the ability to mount in many ways.
