Everyone knows the fuel economy of what they buy - before they buy it. Factory engineers have already squeezed most (if not all) of the mileage out of a car. Drive it if you bought it and enjoy, or buy a Hybrid and get the mileage. It's one or the other. The only time to worry about fuel economy is BEFORE you buy the car.

For what it's worth, gasoline cost in the U.S. Is among the cheapest in the world.

How the Low Rolling Resistance Tires Can Save Fuel and Cash?

Pulling down the cost in all things is what everybody cares about a lot. With too many alluring wallet-friendly options on the shelves and the Internet, it is no wonder vehicle owners would love to save the fuel and money too. Apart from this, it is the social responsibility of every individual to keep a tab on the fuel usage as the resources are limited. This ensures that the non-renewable sources of energy are saved. This is why the low rolling resistance tires are on demand.

Let’s find out what is the deal and are these tires really going to improve your gas mileage.

STEP 1: Deal with basics

Every object needs force to move or roll. When the tire is to make progress in a particular direction, a force has to be placed on the axle, and the rolling resistance is the measure of this force. In simple terms, the effort the car makes to roll a tire with the passengers loaded in it. It would be simple to understand that when the efforts are more, it can be seen that the fuel usage also moves higher, and vice versa.

Factors that cause rolling resistance:
  • The deformation of the tire in the contact patch and the sidewalls as it rolls.
  • Aerodynamic drag of the rotating tire.
  • Friction between the tread and the pavement.
STEP 3: Get to know the difference

What is the difference between a regular tire and a tire with low-rolling resistance?
  • Tread patterns
Manufacturers use lots of methods to bring down the rolling resistance of the tires. One of them is the tread pattern. Next time, when you see beautiful patterns, simply don’t think they do exist for an aesthetic purpose only. They are designed to improve the fuel efficacy and the durability of the tire.
  • Harder sidewalls
Inside the rubber, the internal movement has to be brought down, and the tire manufacturers have taken note of the same, and successfully accomplished to bring down the fuel consumption.
  • Material composition
Aerodynamics is improved while the rigidity of the tire is brought down with the use of new materials.

STEP 4: How does it help?
  • Due to the different tread pattern less of the rubber meets the road
  • The energy expended by the vehicle to go reduces
  • The heat reduces
  • Fuel consumption is cut by 5–15%
STEP 5: Take a look at an example

The great example of the low-rolling resistance tires is used Bridgestone tires. They have a separate line of the fuel-efficient tires. Also, such tires are not restrained to the high-end cars, and even mainstream cars can be fitted with the fuel economy tires. Within the line the noteworthy model is the Bridgestone Ecopia E422 Plus. These tires were specially designed utilizing a proprietary fuelsaver tread and a For example, You have guessed right.

STEP 6: Check some other things

It has to be kept in mind that only buying low rolling resistance tires is not going to help if you are not conscious about a few other contributing factors.
  • Axle weight
The weight that axle can bear matters a lot. So, understanding that every axle is not same is crucial. The rolling resistance varies accordingly.
  • Right tire pressure
Keep the tires properly inflated. Under inflated tires will require more effort from the car, so that you will be spending more on the fuel.
  • Used or new?
Buying the new tires is pretty costly, so many drivers opt for used ones. Unfortunately, not every used low rolling resistance tires are as much efficient as the new ones. But used Bridgestone tires even after long utilization (only a proper one) keep their qualities, offer almost the same fuel efficiency and can serve the next owner.

All the tire manufacturers have come out with fuel saving options for their customers. So, it is not a cumbersome task to find the low rolling resistance tires. They are more expensive than the conventional tires on but in terms of cash economy, you can save a lot in the long run. Ask your local dealers about the used Bridgestone tires.
