Upgrading Volkswagen Golf R's @ GMP Performance

As you guys know the Golf R is out and about. We're really excited about the possibilities of the Golf R with just a few bolt on's. We've had a few in the shop here already, and we're excited to see more.

The first one we've had here was a white 4 door, that we did the Scorpion downpipe, Forge WINtake, and APR Stage 2 ECU flash.

Here's a comparison of the Stock DP vs the Scorpion. You can really see how much more of a straight through design it is.

Currently we have a grey 4 door in the shop getting a APR fuel pump upgrade, Forge WINtake with a engine cover custom cut to fit , an APR Stage 1+ ECU upgrade, DieselGeek short shifter, Euro headlight switch, Auto-dimming Rearview mirror, and Auto headlights.

I test drove one today in Greensboro. Seems like a nice peppy, geared really short. Is there a way to disengage the stability control? You can turn the traction control off but it cuts the power on exiting a turn before any real fun is had.

Any Dyno numbers for any of the cars you guys have done?
Thanks!

Unfortunately we have not done any before and after dyno's and we typically don't as the manufacturer of the software, and hardware upgrades has already provided that information. However we can do it upon request so if you purchase one and would like to do some upgrades and do before and after dyno's we would be more than happy to help you with that.

Got one for a DD a few months back, really nice car, tons of room as well. Wish someone would do a flash that did not require removal of ecu and instantly void warrenty, as I have go fast cars and like the idea of driving the crap out of it with no engine worries .....hilarious. Been all over the vw forums and so far you must take the ecu apart to bypass the no tamper deal to flash, thats a no-no for vw and audi...:mad:

I'm not sure where you got that info from but if you have a Golf R the ECU does not have to be removed. If you have any 2012 VW other than a Golf R then yes it needs to be removed. Which car do you have?

umm 2012 golf R, both achtuning and apr said the ecu must come out, I really hope they are wrong.

OK update...ecu can be flashed with current program, yea ! When I talked to them in Jan they said US delievery golf r had the blocked ecu.

I own a Golf R. 2012. I personally flashed my Golf R with APR software via OBDII Port.

any numbers before/after?

GMP Performance Jul 31, 2012 03:53 PM

Its very difficult to dyno this car. You cant get accurate ground numbers because its not AWD all the time so you need to dyno it in FWD mode and frankly most clients are willing to pay for just a piece of paper with numbers on it. They know it was a smart purchase when they received their car back. Plus all dynos measure different numbers too.

A quick update on the white Golf R that started this thread as we had it back in the shop again. We added a bit of attitude and changed a little in altitude by removing and repainting the stock wheels black, painting the calipers Brembo yellow and adding a set of H&R Springs w/ a set of H&R wheel spacers.
