Handling Q: Recently purchased R8 V10 w/ Bridgestone RE970AS Pole Positions

I have had many performance street cars, and typically only have/use Ulta HP summer rubber, although I just purchased an R8 with these Bridgestone that are All Season High Performance. The tires are almost new, and I noticed that the car tram lined and followed the road crown more than most any other car I have driven. Under higher speed braking, it really wiggled around a bit, which gave me a real uneasy feeling. Cornering is Ok, although I honestly expected more directness and feel from the R8.

So, the question to the pros & those whom have had experience with HP AS tires. Is this typical of this particular/type of tire?

My first thought is to replace them with some Summer UHP rubber!

Thanks!

Jonathan

It sounds to me like the tread depth and design of the tire isn't working with the geometry of the car. Assuming alignment is OK and tire pressure is correct, the movement of the AS tread cap under the car is probably creating the unsteady feeling. I would try switching to a set of summer tires if you don't need the all season capability.

Thank you for the reply Damon! That reaffirms my initial thoughts. I have no idea why someone would put HP AS tires on this type of car, although it did come from Kansas City, MO!
