5 Stand-Out Features Found in the 2020 Chevy C8 Corvette

Chevrolet put a great deal of care into the design and development of 2020 Corvette. And while there are updates aplenty, some stand out more than others. Here are five that are definitely worth a closer look.

Z Mode which gets activated by a special ā€œZā€ button on the steering wheel

Inspired by the Z06, ZR1, and Z51 Corvette performance packages, the “Z” button on the Corvette’s steering wheel is a single-use mode that allows the driver to instantly adjust the engine and transmission's attitude. It’s the evolution of the previous gen's traction system which had different modes like Tour, Weather, Eco, Sport, and Track. The Z mode allows drivers to now mix and match settings for the engine, transmission and steering beyond those set by the factory. When the Z-mode button is pressed, the driver’s favorite combination of performance settings are instantly engaged.

Stealth mode

Another fun option for the 2020 Corvette is the ability to drive the vehicle in “stealth mode”. While the idea is to make you feel like you’re in the cockpit of a fighter jet, this is a bit more of a novelty fun mode. When selected, the car’s interior will darken with all ambient light aside from the speedometer in the 12-inch driver information cluster. It’s a cool feature if you're driving at night and don’t want a lot of ambient light glaring in your eyes.

All new front lift system

A $1500 optional system, drivers that go with this package can lift the car’s front end by two inches with the simple push of a button. This is useful when trying to avoid damage from aggressively angled obstacles. Additionally, the system will ask the driver if they’d like to store the location where it was engaged (using the vehicle’s GPS system) so it lifts automatically when approaching that particular area again. Think about the end of your driveway and if there’s a bit of unevenness between the skirt and road. Or, if you’re driving through the parking lot at work and there are a bunch of imposing speed bumps that you need to go over.

VIP perks

This is not necessarily something new, but it is a cool tradition and definitely worth noting on this list. Parent company General Motors will permit new Corvette owners to pick up their vehicle at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The famed museum is actually just down the road from where the vehicles are assembled and is well worth the trip. The package for doing this is just under $1k and it includes a VIP tour of the museum, drive-off ceremony, as well as a nifty looking personalized interior plaque with the driver’s name, vehicle identification number, and the museum’s logo. All told, roughly 500 owners a year take GM up on this offer and have zero complaints.

Record your drive

The engineers that built the 2020 Corvette took the time to improve upon the car’s Performance Data Recorder, which allows drivers to playback their runs. Truth be told, the system is designed for recording trips around the track, but thanks to advancements in the technology, it can now easily be used as a dashcam that automatically starts recording every time the Corvette is running. For those interested in this technology, the Performance Data Recorder uses a front-facing high-definition camera along with an advanced driving analysis system to record on an SD memory card that is located in the car’s glove box. The system can overlay miles per hour, lap time, and other performance metrics over each clip, so you’re not only enjoying a video of the trip, but you’re also able to review the car’s performance data.
