Bringing the Blower back

If you had an esteemed brand history such as the one Bentley enjoys, it would be a waste not to use it. And with collectors willing to spend a lot of money on classic vehicles, Bentley has realized that it can turn a pretty penny, by reviving some of its most iconic cars. That means that the vintage Bentley Blower race car you see above is a new creation but built to classic specifications.

It runs strong - for real

Here is an image of the revived Blower racer at speed, during the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed, held in England. The driver's full-face helmet and bright visor might be at odds with the classic Bentley's aesthetic, but don't imagine that the automaker's marketing people are unaware of how to position this recreation. It might be based on a 1929 design, but there is a lot of 2019 demand for the vintage Bentley.

The same in every way

The original 1929 Bentley Blower was a dedicated road racer and Bentley has every intention to build its recreation cars to exact detail. That means the appropriate gauge steels and even original tubed tires, running on wire-spoke wheels. But why? Well, Bentley knows that owners who have original 1929 Blowers are not keen on driving their cars, due to their value. So to cater to those who wish to have a 'second' Blower, as a Sunday driver, they are offering these recreation cars.

Breathing new life into the Blower

The new Blowers will be built with Bentley's original jigs and tools, which are all still present in the U.K. facilities. Bentley will take apart its very own 1929 Blower, and digitally scan all the parts. Additional 3D scanning and modeling technology will help with shaping and planning the recreation builds, which are projected to be two years in duration. The engine will be a 4.5-liter in capacity, feature a Roots-type supercharger, and produce about 240hp.

A cabin like a classic watch

The cabin detailing will be completely period correct and pay homage to a time when materials were authentic and ergonomics were completely biased to function. Huge analog dials, metal backing, and tiny windshields were all a part of the Blower's visual appeal.

Reviving a legend

Due to the substantial labor required, and the complexity of work required, Bentley will be limiting its production to only twelve cars. Sir Tim Birkin could never have imagined that his car would be revived 90 years after its initial debut, but here we are. Bentley is the caliber of a company that has the history and customer awareness, which can allow for such special edition revival cars.
