Bond, James Bond

If you find yourself across the pond in London anytime soon, you should consider paying a visit to the Bond in Motion exhibit at the London Film Museum.  Literally, the entire museum is dedicated to the Bond franchise and the vehicles featured in them.  I'm not a die-hard James Bond fan, but I am a big fan of his cars, so I paid a visit to the museum while on a trip to England this past year.  Check out a few of the infamous Bond cars to be seen at this movie car haven!

Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II

Upon entering, visitors walk through the museum's gift shop and head down a small flight of stairs to the showroom floor.  One of the first cars you're greeted with is a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II from A View to a Kill (1985).  Used to chauffeur Bond during an undercover mission, this '62 Silver Cloud was actually lent to the production team by the movie's producer, Cubby Broccoli.

Aston Martin DB10

Carrying on the tradition of using Aston Martin's in Bond films, 2015's Spectre introduced the Aston Martin DB10, a concept car created specifically for Daniel Craig's most recent appearance as 007.  Motor Trend reported that before officially becoming Bond's ride for the film, a design study that would become the DB10 already existed.  The study was intended to showcase the design direction for the future of Aston Martin.  When Director Sam Mendes was shown the DB10, he fell in love; which led to Aston Martin creating the cars for the film.

BMW Z8

Remember the remote-controlled BMW Z8 used in the 1999 film The World is Not Enough?  If not, that's ok, you'll find it at Bond in Motion though.  It was used in the film by Bond to fire a laser-guided missile to take down a helicopter, which ultimately destroyed the Z8.

Quick Break From the Cars

As you move about the exhibit, you'll find various gadgets, props, storyboards, and other memorabilia from the films that showcase the history and immense talent that has gone into creating the Bond franchise.

Aston Martin V12 Vanquish

From one of my personal favorite Bond movies comes the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish featured in Pierce Bronson's 2002 Die Another Day.  I've always found the Iceland chase scene between Bond's Aston Martin and his enemy's Jaguar XKR iconic; the whole battle within the melting ice hotel, cinematic gold.  Interestingly, there's a control box featured at the exhibit that was used by the production crew to activate the guns and gadgets seen on the Vanquish and XKR.

Mercury Cougar XR7

Throwing back to the 1969 film On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Mercury's upscaled-version of Mustang, the Cougar XK7 was featured.  In the movies main chase scene, Bond and Tracy found themselves escaping peril in the middle of a stock car race in the icy village of Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage (and cello)

This V8 Vantage from The Living Daylights (1987) (which was a V8 Volante at the beginning of the film, if you were paying attention) used a 5.3L moto and was outfitted with spiked tires, skis, and a rocket motor.  The Vantage is also seen alongside the infamous cello used by Maryam d'Abo's character, Kara Milovy, who betrays Timothy Dalton's Bond and then becomes his main love interest in the film.

Ford Thunderbird

The 2002 Ford Thunderbird driven by Halle Berry's character, Jinx in Die Another Day, can be found towards the end of the Bond in Motion exhibit.  Although the Thunderbird didn't play a major role in the film, the production revival of the classic Thunderbird nameplate painted in a unique salmon color were notable.

Worth the Trip!

I tried to keep my rundown of Bond in Motion somewhat brief, but there was a lot to see; much more than I was able to include here!  Unfortunately, some of the pictures I snapped didn't come out good, like the classic DB5 that should have been included here (being the most infamous Bond car of the franchise and all)...  It was certainly a sight to see in person, as was the entire experience.   With over 100 individual original items on display from all 24 James Bond films (concept drawings, storyboards, scripts, model miniatures, and full-size vehicles from cars, boats, bikes, and gyrocopters), if you find yourself in London soon, try and set some time aside to make a stop here!
