Tougher, More Focused

Gordon Murray’s upcoming T.33 S promises to push the boundaries of street-legal performance while keeping its track-ready ethos intact. Underpinned by a carbon-aluminum monocoque, the T.33 S will share its naturally aspirated 3.9-liter Cosworth V12 engine with the standard Coupe and Spider models. Capable of 609 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque in its base configuration, slight performance enhancements for the S variant are expected. Murray has teased that the T.33 S will feature a more aggressive suspension setup, increased downforce, and an overall design intended to elevate its capabilities on both road and track.

The T.33 S

Despite its more performance-oriented design, the T.33 S won’t adopt the extreme aero elements seen on the T.50 S. Subtle changes, such as a new front splitter, side skirts, or perhaps a fixed rear wing, could make their way into the final design. While Murray has been tight-lipped about the car's weight and production numbers, speculation suggests it might be built in even fewer units than the 100 Coupes and 100 Spiders already planned.

The Exclusivity of Analog Performance

A defining feature of the T.33 S is its commitment to a six-speed manual transmission. Originally, an automatic paddle-shift option was considered, but minimal demand led to its exclusion. This move aligns with the philosophy behind Murray’s cars, prioritizing driver engagement and mechanical purity. As he stated, the T.33 S will remain “a road car but more track-oriented,” ensuring a distinct character without compromising its street-legal status.

What’s Next for Gordon Murray Automotive

Looking beyond the T.33 S, Murray has hinted at an entirely new model set to debut in 2028. Built on a brand-new platform, this vehicle will mark a significant departure from the mid-engine supercar formula exemplified by the T.50 and T.33. “I don’t want to just regurgitate the same stuff all the time,” Murray told Autocar. While he refrained from confirming its form—be it a coupe, sedan, or even a shooting brake—he assured it will represent “the best of its type” and fulfill a long-standing personal vision.

V12 Power with an Eye on the Future

While the forthcoming model will likely retain the Cosworth V12, Murray has acknowledged the necessity of exploring hybridization. His approach, however, will be minimalistic, ensuring it aligns with his principles of lightweight engineering and driver-focused design. “Electrification efforts will be the minimum we need and the least interference to our seven principles,” Murray explained.

The Road Ahead

The T.33 S, slated for launch next summer, serves as a bridge to Murray’s next chapter of automotive innovation. With production timelines extending to 2028, the T.33 S will cap off an era of naturally aspirated, analog supercars, paving the way for a new breed of performance vehicles that balance tradition and innovation. For enthusiasts, the next few years promise an exciting evolution in the Gordon Murray Automotive story.
