Slideshow: Inside the New Ferrari SP38
Who commissioned the car to be built is unknown at this point. What is known are some of the specifications it. Let’s take a look.
GTB DNA
The car takes its underpinnings from the 488 GTB and likely retains most of the 3.9L twin turbo V8 that its counterpart leaves the factory with. All that’s really known is whoever paid the bill is a big motorsport fan. Knowing the extent clientele go to to have special editions built, it wouldn’t be shocking to find this car producing slightly more horsepower than standard.
Re-body
Styling cues from a few different supercars can be seen in the body which —depending on the angle— can become a bit confusing. It looks like a thoroughbred ridge racer that was created by engineers that had drag and lift at the highest regard on their minds. It’s beautiful in a clinical way that is an offshoot from the traditional designs previously offered by the marque.

Ferrari Exclusivity
Examples like the SP38 Deborah show that Ferrari is still serious about taking care of customers that stay loyal to the brand. This means that in the future, as the push to move away from naturally aspirated engines as well as driver-oriented technologies become more prominent, Ferrari may still be a brand that listens to the public and pushes back against increasing government regulations.

Window to the Future
With the traditional glass engine cover gone in favor of aggressive, cascading louvers, the car is a potential look into the future of automotive design. With the social acceptance of hybrid technology and a new push for efficiency, perhaps this new aesthetic will become the norm.

More than Hype?
Performance is likely similar to a standard 488 GTB so I wouldn’t be lining up to fork out millions of dollars for this “custom” build. What is more interesting is that the design language of the SP38 might be a sneak peek into the future of Ferrari styling, which gives us something to look forward to.
