McLaren 720S MSO Apex Collection All About That Grip
While we await the next iteration of McLaren's 720S, the automaker is keeping busy with some pretty interesting special editions.
Hitting Their Stride
Even now, roughly three years after its arrival, few supercars on the planet can hang with the mighty McLaren 720S. And while we anxiously await the next iteration of this highly capable platform, the British automaker continues to roll out variants of the car to satisfy us in the meantime. The latest of this special group, the MSO Apex Collection, is more of a nod to the car's circuit success than anything else.

Apex This
The Apex Collection name is a reference to the apexes of five famous European Grand Prix circuits, which also happen to be places where McLaren has been testing their vehicles for over 50 years. Each particular car in the collection also is identified by the top speed a McLaren driver was able to achieve in those particular apexes.

Track Speeds
Those speeds and tracks consist of 103 miles per hour through Eau Rouge at Belgium's Spa-Francorchamps, 85 mph through Mobil 1 Kurve at Germany's Hockenheim, 110 mph through Abbey at Great Britain's Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, 104 mph through Signes at Circuit Paul Ricard in France, and 90 mph through the Ascari Chicane at Monza in Italy.

Add Ons
Of course, the Apex Collection 720S is also unique among the diverse model. For starters, it comes equipped with the Track Pack, which sheds 50 pounds over the base model and adds McLaren's Telemetry System, a sports exhaust, and carbon-fiber exterior trim.

Unique Touches
MSO then comes in and adds a whole host of special goodies. They include extended door sills and shift paddles, a unique dual-color Alcantara steering wheel, throttle pedal, and key shell. On the outside, the only way to tell an Apex Collection 720S from the standard car is a set of badges on the rear fenders.

Exclusive Club
Of course, this still doesn't mean the Apex Collection 720S will exactly be easy to get your hands on. McLaren is building 15 cars total or three of each theme. Six of them will come in right-hand-drive, all for the European market.

Cool Extras
For those lucky dozen, the cost of entry will come in at $355,641 U.S. That's a little over $44k on top of the cost of a Track Pack-equipped 720S. But owners are also given a Formula 1 Paddock Pass to a Grand Prix, as well as a ride in a 720S for a Pirelli Hot Lap during the weekend.

Garage to Track
All of this means that McLaren is working to coax Apex 720S buyers to actually get out and drive their cars on a circuit, as well as hone their skills. But at the end of the day, we're not sure how many will actually take them up on that offer. After all, it's a pretty rare car that'll likely appreciate, no?
