Completely New Platform

With the introduction of the Artura, McLaren is taking a leap forward into their electrified future. But the newly engineered power and drivetrains aren't the only new elements of the supercar. The Artura is the first vehicle from the British brand to be designed on a completely new structure since the MP4-12C.

MCLA

The new platform, which will likely be used in the upcoming generation of McLarens features a freshly designed carbon-fiber tub. Dubbed the 'McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture,' (MCLA) the chassis is engineered with EV capabilities in mind.

Hyrbid Power

The Artura will be powered by a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 motor that is capable of 577 hp and 431 lb-ft of torque. The new engine is lighter and smaller, helping in weight-saving and packaging efforts. With an 8,500 RPM redline, the screaming ICE is also aided by an electric motor, which resides within the transmission system. The electric motor adds 94 horses and 166 lb-ft, bringing the car's total to  671 hp and 531 lb-ft.

Plug-In

Cleverly, the gearbox doesn't feature a physical reverse gear. Backing up is in the Artura is facilitated solely by the electric motor. The lithium-ion battery can provide up to 19 miles of full EV driving. Charging the battery up can be done by plugging it in, but if a charging station is not accessible, the ICE can charge it up as well.

Driver Focused

The cabin space of the McLaren Artura is an evolution of the driver-focused McLaren interior design philosophy that we've grown used to. The simplicity and sophistication in this area make the Artura an amazing entry-level supercar.

Brilliant Entry-Level Supercar

Weighing in at 3,303 pounds, the new plug-in hybrid McLaren can go from 0 to 60 mph in a respectable 3.0 seconds. Interestingly, the manufacturer has enabled over-the-air software updates for the supercar's electric features. This capability will surely prove useful as McLaren, along with the rest of the automotive industry moves into an electric future.
