Pininfarina to Produce 250 MPH EV Hypercar!
Slideshow: For those unfamiliar, Automobili Pininfarina is a brand new electric luxury brand. They don’t have anything on the market at the moment, but what they lack for in actual wheels, they make up for in promise. Case in point: The company’s pledge to produce a fully electric, Pininfarina-badged hypercar set to arrive in 2020.
Additional background about Automobili Pininfarina
Automobili Pininfarina was launched by Mahindra & Mahindra. With a roster of leading engineers ready to get to work, the company plans to use all of its resources to produce the futuristic hypercar. It is worth pointing out, of course, that Mahindra races in Formula E. So not only does the company have the book smarts to produce the vehicle it promises, it has the experience to draw upon to make sure it’s a high-performance EV.
So here’s what Automobili Pininfarina is promising it will produce: A fully electric hypercar that will be able to go from 0-62mph in less than two seconds, from 0-186 mph in less than 11 secs, and flat out, the car will top out at 250 mph, if not, possibly more. The company is also forecasting a range of 310 miles.
Additional perks of this futuristic supercar
The Automobili Pininfarina hypercar will be outfitted with Level 3+ autonomy: That is, it won’t be fully autonomous (the driver will be needed for certain conditions), but it’s a step up from things like simple lane-keep assist and speed control.
The idea’s there – why is it going to take so long to produce?
The reason the company is holding off the launch of the new EV is that in 2020, Pininfarina will celebrate its 90th anniversary. Can you think of a better way to celebrate than launching a 250 mph, fully electric car?
As one of the world’s most renowned car design companies, with a roster that includes the likes of the Nuova Alfa Spider, Ferrari P4/5, Sergio, F12, 458 and so on, there is no doubt that Automobili Pininfarina will succeed in creating a high performance, luxury electric hypercar using its vast experience with race technology.
Specifically referencing how EVs are the ‘future’, Mahindra said: “When power, beauty, and high-end EV technology come together in one car, that will be the perfect luxury vehicle, that will give car lovers the freedom to roam without impacting the planet adversely.”
Early indications suggest the project will be limited to 100 cars max. Those interested in purchasing one can expect to pay upwards of $2 million.
