The movie has now become a cultural phenomenon, standing the test of time over the decades. And fandom of the DeLorean has certainly been a huge byproduct of the famous franchise created by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale.

And despite massive obstacles, the manufacturer still managed to build thousands of cars before going under. DMC's inventory and trademarks were purchased in 1995 by Stephen Wynne who planned to re-launch the brand.

The company recently shared a blog post that hinted at the possibility.

Doing away with an internal combustion engine altogether would eliminate the threats posed by emission regulations, which are inevitably growing stricter with time. If DMC is indeed planning to develop an EV, it would fall perfectly in line with the idea behind the concept they showed at the 2012 NY Auto Show. The company is possibly looking to secure financing for the development of a new model, as they urge all of us to "stay tuned."
