Contrary to the classic colors

No other car brand is as closely related to a specific color, as Ferrari is to red. It is pretty rare for owners to order their cars in any other color but there are owners who want to be different. For British Ferrari dealer extraordinaire, John Collins, his desire was for a custom F12, in white, blue and yellow. In the history of V12-powered Ferraris roadsters, this is certainly a first.

Collins' custom car is called a Ferrari SP3JC, with the last two letters donating the owner's initials. It is based on the F12 tour de France, with the most notable change being the lack of a metal roof. This SP3JC is effectively the F12 Spyder which never happened in mass production.

Tri-color tdf

The SP3JC shows just how suitable Ferrari's F12 shape is as a roadster. In terms of inspiration, John Collins took the 1962 GTO as a reference car and then specified his own choice of colors to be used: white, blue and yellow. The SP3JC's rear is also quite different from any F12s, with gills and a unique diffuser.

A guaranteed future classic V12 Ferrari

The anchor mechanical bits of this SP3JC remain the same as those found in the Ferrari F12tdf coupe. Power sources from a 6.3-liter naturally-aspirated V12 producing 769hp and sits ahead of the driver. On the Collins' car, that engine is partly visible thanks to transparent panels in the hood.

One of the best atmospheric engines - ever

Front-engined V12 Ferraris are rare and roadster versions, even more so. The V12 which sits above (or slightly aft) of the SP3JC's front axle, is part of the F140 engine family. It is considered the apex point for Ferrari V12 road car design, featuring a 65-degree piston orientation between the two cylinder banks, on its crankshaft.

Collectible Ferraris aren't always red

The John Collins commissioned SP3JC is a wonderful chapter in the history of Ferrari's rare V12-powered road cars. But its unusual color combination not be seen as something without lineage. Ferrari has been painted some of its greatest cars in colors other than red for decades with some gaining more fame than others.
