5000cc of Fun

Wiesmann is known for producing hand made roadsters since 1993 and was founded by two brothers named Martin and Friedhelm Wiesmann. They have a thing for BMW engines and the Wiesmann MF5 that this article is about is no different. By fitting the S85 V10 up front the guys are capable of outputting over 540 horsepower in a package that weighs 3,000lbs. Serious stuff.

Major Details

Power is nothing without control, which is why the MF5 features double wishbone suspension on all four corners with trailing arms placed at the rear. By doing this, the wheels maintain proper camber control which ensures the contact patch stays stuck to the road. The transmission is shifted by a flappy paddle gearbox that clicks off shifts fast enough to propel the car from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds.

Something About It

The looks are all classic roadster that has a similar profile as that of a Datsun 240Z or the iconic Shelby Daytona Coupe, but with a twist. Proportions on the car are snubbed in the right places and elongated where you would want them to be. Big wheels fill out swollen arches that give the car a masculine presence despite its streamlined shapes and soft front edges.

Convertible or Hardtop

As they are rooted in convertibles the car does come in two forms: hard top and convertible. As much as the structural integrity of a car benefits from having a roof, it would be hard to pass up hearing that V10 in a Swiss tunnel as you belt around the next hairpin at 8,000rpm. Interior seats and dashboard are soaked in hand-stitched Alcantara or leather. Very nice.

Almost 30

In just a few more years Weismann will turn 30 as a maker of limited production, high-horsepower, and well-designed sports cars that tick every box if you want something to stand out. Price of the MF5 is listed at a not so cheap $214,000 which means you have to really want one to buy one. Although less known, they are more unique than any Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini tooling around the road and for that, we love the quirky little roadster. Hope you enjoyed.
