A New NSX Prototype Hits Nürburgring

Last month we showed you what happens when a prototype Honda NSX (otherwise known as vaporware) doesn’t mesh well with the Nürburgring. Long story short, it burned to the ground. Thankfully no one was hurt, unless you count the car’s insipid fanboys on the Internet.

Obviously Honda read those last few articles calling out the long gestation process for the NSX and my belief that it will probably never make production, because they seemed to have shipped a new prototype back to the ‘Ring.

While much of the architecture is the same, the new prototype NSX looks a bit differently than what I remember it looking like last time. Take a look at the hood of the new prototype, there definitely appears to be more cooling ducts funneling air into the front of the car.

While no official word was sent out on why the last prototype burned to a crisp, it’s widely speculated that there was a lack of cooling with either a combination of the conventional engine and electric part or just the electric part of the drive train which caused the fire.

If either is the case, these new cooling ducts make quite a lot of sense. What’s interesting though is the lack of new cooling ports in the rear of the car.

In my mind this not having any new body work suggests the car’s hybrid drive train works with a conventional power plant powering the rear wheels, and an electric set driving the front. With the likely culprit being the electric part of the system for the fire.

Only time will tell if Honda ever decides to actually confirm a launch date, or just continue to tease and tease and tease every single Internet commenter with a GT-R killer. You know my stance on it.
