Patrick Dempsey to Race with Porsche at 24hrs of Le Mans

You might not be aware of this, but actor and Hollywood heartthrob Patrick Dempsey is a real world race driver. He been with Mazda for the past few years. His team currently runs two RX-8s in the Grand-Am Rolex series. This year, though, he’s returning to the world of endurance racing with his own team and a 911 GT3 RSR.

Dempsey isn’t he only one bringing Porsche back to the Circuit de la Sarthe. He’s teamed with Del Piero Racing for 2013; they’re a competitive racing team founded by italian soccer superstar Alessando del Piero. Combined, the teams will field two cars in the GTC class. Porsche themselves will be competing in the GTE class with Team Manthey. They’ll be running a 991 based RSR in an attempt to fight off the Corvettes and Ferraris of the GTE Pro class.

The race is scheduled to start June 22nd. In the meantime, I’m sure the 2013 ALMS season will be seriously entertaining for road racing fans across the country. Who knows? Maybe the combined star power of Dempsey and Alessando will pull some much viewership to the world of road racing. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
