You should be getting WAY more than .4 in first gear. Something ain't right.

For me it happened after 5k miles or so ... then got used to the speed and the car seemed "slow" off the line ... then you get on the phone with Stephen (Imagine Auto) and then the fun is back

i think you are forgetting that you have added huge rims and tires AND more bodywork (which equals more weight) to that car. that all adds up to a heavier and slower car, with ALOT of more drag to pull around on acceleration.

i have not added any rims ... the only thing i added was a gt2 wing which is lighter that the stock ... the stereo added like 20 lbs .. but that shouldnt make so much of a difference

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? It hits around .4 bar in 1st then in 2nd and up it hits from .9-1.2. I don't understand what could be the cause of this problem.... Anyone have any ideas?

Does the short 1st gear allow it to hit the high bars? My car's in the shop so I can't test yet. Try going up a really steep hill in first and put some load on it.

I HATE THIS BOARD!!!!!!!!!!

Just when you think everything is OK with you TT, you read a thread here and begin to wonder. I just checked out my boost in 1st gear and it never went over 0.4 no matter how many times I tried!!!!!!!!! I too have after market chip/exhuast and regularly see 1.2-1.3 bars in every other gear but 1st.
Is this a vacuum leak, or the DV's or normal?
Thanks

Yo OKHJOON!

No, it's not an X-50.
How is LA? I was just there Labor Day weekend visiting friends. It was around 100F every day.
My car has a custom 3-step Chip form TechArt. This was matched with the TechArt Intake and Sport Exhuast.
I need to dyno it one of these days, but it is supposed to put out 485-490 HP.

i will never leave LA ... i was in vegas for labor day ... that was probably the hottest time in LA.

what difference did the chip make to your car through the gears?

do you know of any differences between the techart, upsolute, and giac stage 2?

1st gear is so short that I doubt you will see much more than .4-.5 bar. The boost doesn't have time to build before the rpms are at redline. It's a timing issue, really. Turbos take time to spool. They don't have enough time in 1st gear, really. The digital gauge might not be able to keep up with the actual boost, either, before the rpms are up. Get a nice analog gauge and you might be able to get a more accurate measurement.

As for .8 bar on a stock turbo (non-X50), you should be looking more for .7. I have a feeling that .8 is a bit optimistic.

Here is the correct way to test peak boost and hold:

You want to sit around 2500pm in a high gear (4th, 5th, 6th). Go WOT and see where your boost sits once the turbos fully spool. Higher gears put more and longer load on the engine and thus, it gives the turbos more time to spool and hold.

A non-X50 turbo should peak at .7 - .75 bar (possibly .8) at around 3000-3500rpm, fall off to .6 bar, and then increase back to .7 bar around 6200rpm all the way to redline.

Below is a picture of the stock K-16 boost curve (thanks Jack) - #1

i agree with ruiner, turbo cars do not always get to full boost on 1st or 2nd gear, a turbo car usually reaches full boost in either 3rd or 4th gear depends if ur car is a 6 or a 5speed...

i hope this helps
