Rock,
too funny my man! Thank you for all of your PM's. I just responded to you.
I really am humbled by your persistence. I'm also glad to see that this car is resonnating with others as much as it does with me.
Cheers!

I have first dibs. I mean it! I was first in line before all the mods.

Chris,
You're sick bro! You just picked up a sweet 993 RUF and you're still looking for another??!!
Alois Ruf is under your skin

Vince. I wish my man. Don't quote me on this, but I believe the only 993's that broke the 500hp barrier were the VIN CTR2 cars. Those had a completely different set up with custom intercoolers etc , etc.
RUF only offers one conversion for the 993 turbo, which is the turboR package. This is the one that was done to the car. Conservative RUF estimates are 500hp/500lbft, but everyone tells me it's closer to 520.
There are other tuners that can squeeze out more hp and big numbers can obviously be acheived with a 3.8 twin plug conversion, etc. but I figured my car will never be the fastest. Just wanted the reliability, pedigree of RUF and enough juice to at least run with some of the newer cars - zo6, 997tt, f430, gallardo, etc.

Wish I had more stories, but to be honest, i'm a pretty boring driver most of the time
I have encountered a couple of c6 zo6's. Here's as detailed a recount as i can recall...
The first was on the freeway at about 65. I saw him pulling up behind me. after following for a few minutes he got real close, downshifted and pulled to my left and gunned it. As he was passing me I did the same. He got about a car length on me but once i was on full boost i was reeling him in. Those cars are fast, but the RUF makes great power above 5K rpm and holds it through redline. I closed most of the gap before we ran out of room.
The second encounter was on the streets. This one caught me a bit off guard. I saw the vette pull past a car behind me. He honked as he blew by me. I gunned it but didn't really have a chance. Once on full boost it felt like i was closing the gap, but then lost ground everytime I had to shift. The gearing on the vette is better.
Nothing scientific, but a few conclusions. 1) those vette's are fast! 2) the RUF definately held it's own. once on full boost and in the right gear it's the faster car, but the gearing and instant hit of a NA motor are an advantage for the vette. more seat time needed...
ALso, i have no experience in the twisties, but the all-wheel drive RUF seems to handle pretty well for what it's worth.
I've encountered a number of ferrari's, gallardos and 997tt's on the street as well as an fgt, but most of them just give a thumbs up. Not one challenge to this point.
Tony (ty328) has also seen the RUF in action from the seat of his 997. He might be able to give a third party perspective.
Cheers!
