Another positive review for 5 Points in Redwood City. Will go back to them again even though there are many places closer to me.

Okay, so....

Got my tires installed at Custom Alignment, paid a lot but assumed it was worth it from the good reputation... not so sure now that it's done.

My total for 4 tires mount and balance and installing my TPMS sensors was almost $200. I could live with that if they had done a stellar job, BUT... They scratched my wheels, and didn't even say anything. Luckily I checked them before leaving.

Also, they said if they had been repainted before then I would be on my own. I didn't know if they have, and so they are having them redone, but I still think that's pretty weak. What about next time I go, and I know my wheels are repainted (because they had it done) are they not liable then? They had to use their "old machine" as the newer one was being serviced.

I mean crap, America'd Tire had one of my tires off for repair a while back and they sure didn't scratch it!

PIA, not to mention I need to bring the car back for a couple days.

So they are saying "We won't cover repairs on a repainted wheel, (assumedly since a repaint is inferior) but if we did damage your original paint we will repaint them."

I would ONLY allow repairs by the wheel mfg- since the tire store will pay the bill. The wheel should be equal in every way to the 'before damage' condition, which includes a manufacturers certification.

A

PS I get mine done at my local BigO. there is ONE guy I trust, they know me well- I have 6 vehicles I get tires for. great equipment, fastidious with the wheels, Hunter 9700... as I mentioned, they match tirerack every time... and will also mount the odd tire I get cheap on ebay.

Benesian - I've used Custom on 3 occasions and they seem to be ok, but now you got me a bit worried if they did not even attempt to make it right for you after it was their fault.

Can you post pictures of the scratches?

I don't have pictures and I just dropped the car off to them this morning. The deep scratches were in a circular fashion on the wheel edges, in the process of pushing the bead of the tire over the rim. They were pretty deep scrapes.

They also told me again that it is likely due to them using the older machine. The newer machine hardly touches the wheels, where the old one does.

They are attempting to make it right, but they sure aren't making it easy on me. Just called me to say that it looks like one of the wheels had been repainted and not the best job, so they won't be liable for how well it turns out.

so they are saying that they have 1 old and 1 new machine? and they happened to use the old scratch-prone one on your car?

Yes, the new machine was being serviced. Had they told me this and the differences, before hand, I would have waited. I was not in a hurry.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I work and help run Five Points Tire. Mark Lewman (the owner) has done a great job building a reputation for his company. We have been the goto shop for the extreme racing enthusiast in the Peninsula. Whether it be a open track F430 to the everyday ZR1. If there is anything I can help you with, please feel free to give us a call at 650-365-0280. Thanks again.

Manny handled the receiving of my HREs and tires from Wheels Boutique and then made sure a clean install was on my 996TT. Will continue to go there for my high end wheel needs.

I used AutoSoundPerformance in Daly City. Ask for Drew, he knows what he's doing and you won't leave with any new marks on the wheels.

I have had a few tire changes on a few cars since my last post on this thread. My best experience has been with America's Tire Co on Hamilton in Campbell. The shop I've been taking my 911 to did the most recent tire change on the 911 and they did a great job, got the tires next day and price was competitive, but I am erects sure either of these will either match the price, or install the tires and/or wheels you have shipped to them.

So, again, my two recommendations are:

America's Tire Co (they have serviced my 911 plenty-including fixing a flat)
Flintworks in Campbell - Alden - done a lot on the 911 including all maintenance, tires, they had my rims powdrcoated-turned out great....

Best of luck!
