997.1 and 997.2 / Sport Chrono package
Hey guys.
I keep hearing people talk about their 997.1 or their 997.2 whats the difference what does this mean? Also what does the Sport Chrono package have over the regular standard non Chrono package Carrera?
Thanks for the education fellows....

loved loved the responsiveness of turning on the chrono sport controls... it just makes the handling tighter and quicker, not sure if i'd buy another without it, it made me feel more of a rush and even a better driver. i used it only on occasion.
others will know the more technical details of sports chrono

997.1 refers to the 911 997 model that was produced from 2005 - 2008.
997.2 refers to the second generation 997 chassis. It was produced from 2009 - present.
991 will be the new 911 and will officially retire the 997. Supposedly it will be in production for 2012 (although we don't really know for sure).
The Sport Chrono package does a couple of things for you - for starters, it provides you with a Sport and/or Sport Plus button (depending on your transmission ... manual gets Sport. PDK Gets both). The buttons activate different engine and transmission dynamics making the drive WAY more responsive and fun. If you're considering buying, you'll definitely want one! It also includes an analog clock on the dash that is linked to the PCM system (basically the navigation system) allowing you to time your track runs. Not really very useful to be honest, and actually quite dangerous to use while on the track.
Hope this helps! Hop on over to the 997 forum for even more in depth answers.
