991 to 993...am I crazy?!?!

I don't think you're nuts at all. Sounds like you wanted a sports car that drives like one and you bought a GT car with electric steering and an automatic transmission. If you don't really drive the car that often and want something that's engaging and gets you excited every time you're in it, I say go for the 993TT. I think you'll forget about the creature comforts of the new car as soon as you heel toe downshift into the power band of the 993.

Recently purchased a fully loaded (PDK, full leather, PSE, etc) '14 991 4S. It's the most beautiful car ever but something is missing. For some reason, I am just not excited to drive it. The car seems almost numb and I feel totally disconnected from it. Honestly, I felt more of a connection to my base 997.1, 6MT.
I'm seriously considering a trade for a 993 TT (yes, I am well aware of the price difference) to help satisfy my urge for a better driving and ownership experience.
Just curious if anyone else feels the same way...

Of course, the 993 is far from the most elemental version, what with its transitional styling on the classic craft made core tub, and its vastly superior suspension compared to earlier Carreras or SCs.
But you will get to experience the random interior, the sweet whiff of oil on heat exchangers, (and spots in the garage), the "special" handling and interesting machinations of the suspension. The unique combination of understeer, oversteer and vertical motion, along with built in bump-steer make for a lifetime of memories and war stories of survival.
You are almost right about the 991. It is so drastic an advance from prior generations that chances are that most will never push hard enough to find how good a sports car is there inside the GT car, but you can always come back to one and find out.

Nice!! How long have you had it? What are the details?
Look in great condition from the pic.

The 993 may feel a bit "antique" compared to the 991 but the 993 is the most advanced and refined air cooled Porsche. It is very much capable of being a daily driver. Hugely competent and flexible engine. Loads of performance. Fantastic brakes. Smooth 6-speed. Supple suspension. Comfortable seats and real A/C and heat. And nothing looks or sounds like it. People ask me which I prefer, my 991 or my 993. I don't have an answer for that. For now, I couldn't bear to be without either. Good luck with your decision. It won't be easy!

Thanks. It's a '96. Had it about 12 years. 32k miles. It's darn near perfect. Euro front end, Bilstein coilovers, short shifter, big ovals, etc.

Seeing the older ones has me a little more content in not always wanting the newest thing. I like my 991 so much, that the news of the mid cycle facelift or whatever doesn't excite me too much.

I totally agree!

The 991 is beautiful, but it seems like you have to push it extremely hard to bring out its true sports car nature (and get it out of GT mode). This is what I meant when I wrote that the car feels numb. Other cars, like the 993, are constantly in sports car mode. You never forget what it is that you are driving. I could easily mistake my 991 for a 5 series when I'm driving it. Maybe this is what some people are looking for....
Also, as mentioned before, I feel I am in a different situation than most here. I don't use my car to commute to work.
