Just For Laughs

Pulled the inside door handle on my '99 C2 and heard a loud SNAP from inside the door. The door handle would not firmly return to its closed position. The door handle could still open the door so I assumed it must be a return spring. Took the inside panel off yesterday (it's so easy you can do it in your sleep) and found that the spring had broken at the end. Too cheap to order a part, I used needle nose pliers and formed a new loop. Attached it back to the door handle and put everything back together but I left the spring cover off thinking I didn't need it. Loud squeaking/rubbing from the spring when pulling the handle. Took the door apart again. Replaced the cover and put everything back together. Now the door handle felt sluggish, like it was rubbing on something. Took door apart again and found that the spring cover was positioned too far forward causing the straight part of the spring to bind on the material in the plastic groove. Put door back together again. Looked on garage floor and saw a piece of wire with a connector for the airbag. It had broken off. Took door off again and used crimp connectors to fix. Put door back together and all is well. The End.

I'm becoming well acquainted with this Porsche. I'm just glad that the problems that have surfaced are not major. [knock-on-wood]
