First good news since I have owned the car.

He got the engine out and split the case. He saw no damage. I was expecting scored cylinders. Normal wear only. Very little metal in the engine.

Still has not taken off the heads, though. He is concerned about rust damage to the bolts.

He also check the transmission mount and said it looked good.

Things are looking up.

Lastly is Turn-In Concepts. They specialize in boxer engines (primarily subarus) but have recently entered into the porsche world. Fair pricing (cheaper than wright) but good turn around time and honest guys. They recently got a new shop with an AWD dyno and a massive vacuum sealed engine room.[/QUOTE]

Vaccum sealed engine room-- should i be concerned that our indy doesn't have one?

I've scheduled a preventive measure appointment here in NJ. Just wondering if I overlooked this question before making the appointment.

Can't split the case without removing the heads, you can easily inspect the cylinders once the heads are off.

He is doing a complete tear down. He dropped the engine and split the case and took out the crank. I havent's taken one apart but I assume you can do this. Since the block splits in half you don't need the heads off to see the cylinders. Her is going to rebuild the heads. He was just waiting until last to take them off because of the rusty bolts.

Head bolts screw into the crankshaft housing.

Ah. I must have miss understood him because I swear he said the crank was out and the cylinders looked good but he was waiting to tackle the heads. Are there other rusty bolts on the head he would be worried about?

Can't think of anything, once the crank is out it. I bet some of the exhaust bolts snapped off in the head, that's common.

Just spoke with him. You're right. Has the heads off but I soaking the manifold bolts for a few days before he is going to try to take them out.

Now it makes sense.

And he's gonna send me pics.

I have been researching places for a rebuilt when I need one.... UFO kept at the top of the list... integrity, attention to detail, happy customers and about 50-60% less than the next cheapest option.

I am sure you will be really happy with their work.

When its my time, I will be heading straight to UFO motorsports.

Well car is back together. He is going to drive it for a few days and put some miles on it to check everything.

Can't wait. Final reports was engine was in great shape and initially did not see any metal in the oil (I changed it before sending it out). But he found a lot of shavings in the IMS when he was taking everything apart. The IMS bearing (that was placed 4,000 miles ago) was in good shape but I had him put a new on in anyway. Went with another LN bearing.

and the damage

and some pics

There are numerous threads about staying away from Motormeister in California, they have a number of unhappy customers and lawsuits.

Motormeiste is out of business now, but when I started research they were still in business. Can't imagine waiting a year for a rebuild. This has taken a week longer than he said (but I figured double his estimate - so I'm still a week ahead in my mind)

Research paid off.
