While we are on the topic of factory frunk contents, did the 996 come new with the red Porsche first aid kit? I have seen on the parts schematic that there is a "first aid kit strap" but never a picture of it inside a frunk or 996 for sale with one?

Most (all?) Euro cars have a place for a first aid kit as they are required equipment over there. They aren't shipped with US cars though.

I don't know about Porsche, but if you take ED on a BMW the kit and reflectors will be there, but if you don't take them home with you they will be removed before the car is shipped home.

This is an often-repeated internet myth.

The spare serves no crash protection purpose. If that were the case, then all C2's would be missing this "safety feature" since the spare tire on C2's stands up straight as opposed to laying flat (horizontally) on the trunk floor.

Not that I subscribe to the myth, but the tubs for the C2 and C4 are different. The C4 has a stiffer chassis (I'm told it shares the GT3 tub), so you aren't exactly comparing apples to apples there.

I have no idea what bearing the differences would play in a front crash or if the spare would have any effect. I lean towards "possibly" and "I doubt it" though.

You also have the front drivetrain too which I would expect to make much more of a difference than the spare.

I'm sure glad I had my spare 2 Saturdays ago! I was 65 miles from the house! A minivan threw something up and I had no where to go! My priceless 315/19 was cut and as I was limping off the side of the interstate, I looked in rear view and saw the Road Ranger behind me with his lights on! He said he saw it happen and followed me! He got a nice tip!

Just look at all the crashed c2's out there and observe the crumpled areas. C4 is obviously a different story since it has a different tub and spare tire layout.

Oh man, I feel ya! Now you're in the same boat I was over the holidays... waiting for some 315/19s! It was embarrassing rolling on those oranges in town. I couldn't stay away from my yellow baby for more than a week so I'd go on short Starbucks runs on those.

In heavy pothole areas, I recommend keeping in the frunk. We've blown 2 sets of tires because of them.

Oh no!!! I pulled my spare set off the wall rack and I'm back on the street! I would like to find another 315 MPS soon though.

Is it safe to say that rolling on donuts makes guys feel the same way as some women going out in public with no makeup?

Pretty much. That they make them bright orange/red just adds insult to injury. Kinda like a doctor handing a magnifying glass to the patient that just asked about Viagra

I think the colour is just to make sure you don't forget to get the tire fixed. It certainly worked for me.

Same here. So much so that I stocked up with 2 new sets that were available plus a second used set given free from a kind member here. You are lucky. I waited almost 2 months.

Hmmm, I hope that's not the sentiment for all women

Yes, that's why I made sure to include "some" in my statement. My wife for example, only wears makeup on special occasions.

So you're saying C4's need the added "protection" of a spare whereas the C2's don't? If the spare were a safety feature for C4's, don't you think there'd be a warning somewhere in the trunk and also in the manual advising you not to remove it except when it is being used?
