Radar Detectors
#16
FWIW I've used many V1's and almost every detector Escort has and they have all not only saved me on many occasions but I have never gotten a ticket for speeding when using any of the various radar systems. Unless you're getting hit with LIDAR (which no "detector" is a reliable defense for - must use laser jammers) all of these detectors are going to give you more than enough warning time to slow down for whatever band it is. My only complaint with the V1 is the endless false alerts, I live in north Dallas and where I drive there's a false alert every mile. It may not bother some people too much but all of the false alerts just drive me nuts. For that reason I've been using various versions of Escort/Beltronics that feature the GPS technology that filters 95% of the false alerts. I know the arrows on the V1 were a big deal but with the introduction of the Escort MAX 360 that is no longer an issue. I currently have the Bel Stir Plus installed on my car - a custom installed system that is completely invisible. I own Radar-Mirror and we support every major radar/laser brand. If anyone needs a new radar system/detector give me a shout and I can hook you up.

Far as I know they all work in the UK but some manufacturers i.e. Beltronics have models unique to European markets that probably have things like red light camera or speed camera databases pre-loaded. The V1 has a Euro Mode that can be enabled. The system I have on my personal car is the Beltronics Stir Plus NA (North America) - it was originally only available in European markets until they released the NA version a few years ago.

Was wondering the same (also from the UK) and do these work only with fixed cameras or the handheld detector type l?

"FF plates" refers to 'fire fighter" plates I guess. In CA these are only available to firefighters or retired/ex-firefighters.
Not sure how these are supposed to keep one free of tickets.
Used to be -- maybe still is -- a rumor/story going around that donating -- a rather large sum of money (I seem to recall the starting amount was $1000 but that's just what I recall of the rumors/stories -- to some charity that was intended to help the families of killed in the line of duty law enforcement officers, or retired, or sick law enforcement officers would get you a license plate frame that was as good as a get out of jail free card, so to speak, when it came to tickets.
I've see these frames around -- not too common but I don't look for them really.
