I know what you meant, EBAY and some other websites selling for $100 or less. Personally, I had no experience. If you want to play it safe, B&M would be the choice. You can contact Eric @ BumperPlugs.com for $200.
I bought one of those shifters and they are exactly like the B&M, maybe a bit heavier... 6 months later I bought the B&M via bumperplug. I compared the two SSK and what is different is the teflon bushing that they used... the ebay shifter developed alot of play because of the cheaper (plastic) bushings. The B&M quality is 100x better and will last the life of the car... the ebay developed play after 6 months.

I'm wondering if it was installed correctly, had mine done one week ago by a 30 year Porsche tech, it worked perfectly the first time and gets better each time I drive it.

Revisit short shifter question on 911 40th Anniversary

The difference is simply amazing, for anyone still driving on the stock shifter, spend $400.00 buy the shift kit and have it installed, or save $200.00 and do it yourself. I cannot understand why Porsche doesn't make this a stock item, as it makes the driving experience so much better. If anyone considering having one of these installled has questions, don't hesitate to e-mail me.
Steve - I have a 40th, too - I know that its been many years since you posted this, but I would like to learn more about your experience having done this. My 40th has just over 80K on the clock and I've been interested in doing the short shifter for a while. If you see this post please email me at 40jahre911@gmail.com. Thanks. Ted

MoeMonney will become famous soon enough
SSK from Ebay for under 50 Dollars is identical to the B&M SSK. Ive installed 3 and they have had no issues. Seams the companies now make them with the right bushings.
