B&M Short shift kit

Just purchased a used 04 Anniversary edition 911, this is the worst manual transmission I've ever driven.....the fix was easy, a B&M short shift kit installed by Jeff Jones (great guy, talented tech) at Automotive Techniques in Farmington Hills MI. The difference is simply amazing, for anyone still driving on the stock shifter, spend $400.00 buy the shift kit and have it installed, or save $200.00 and do it yourself. I cannot understand why Porsche doesn't make this a stock item, as it makes the driving experience so much better. If anyone considering having one of these installled has questions, don't hesitate to e-mail me.

Yup! I'm sure most people would agree it's one of the best things you can do. Enjoy the car!

B&m Ssk

I'm planning to install the kit in the near future and was wondering if the shift link is also needed?

If your old one is worn out. Otherwise, no need. I had my SSK installed and check the stock shift link still good so I didn't replace. Few other members didn't change it either and no complain so far.

Not necessarily. I'm using the B&M SSK only, and it works great with the stock links.

My thought was as long as I paid someone to install the B&M SSK, may as well install the Evo billet shift link at the same time. Truly elevated my driving experience. Shifts are tight and exact, though slightly notchy. But that is the trade off, you get used to it quickly.

Dare I ask about ebay...what are good manufacturers for the short-shifter? There are a lot on ebay for under $100. I understand you get what you pay for though...

Is it a difficult install if the car is up on jackstands?

tshack, dont you dare buy a ssk for under 100 on ebay.

B&M, $200. from Bumperplugs.com, the ultimate shifting upgrade, piece of mind.

Very easy to install, even a novice can do it with the detailed pictures and instructions provided with the B&M. Jackstands are fine, all the work is done in the car. It should take you under 2 hours.

SSK come in two versions. Top mount and bottom mount. Get the top mount that you can install by remove the rear console.

I know what you meant, EBAY and some other websites selling for $100 or less. Personally, I had no experience. If you want to play it safe, B&M would be the choice. You can contact Eric @ BumperPlugs.com for $200.

How can I tell if the shift link needs to be replaced?

If I order the top mount, does the car even need to be on jackstands?

Eric @ Bumperplugs offers a KILLER deal on those shifters. He has the lowest price in the nation I believe at $200.
I place the orders for our shop and have tried numerous times to get a line on B&M shifters, and even at wholesale prices, and in quantity, I cannot get them for less than $240. I order my shifters from him now.

I have no idea how B&M would let him sell those for that price. It is the best mod for the money.
