So I did it just like Dr. Rock suggested.
My best advice would be to order the correct tools before you start -wobble extensions and sets of long ball allen and torex bits are a must for this job.
I didn’t drop the engine or move any oil or coolant pipes in order to get in to spark plugs .
All project was about one spark plug –first on the driver site facing the front –it took me more time to do this one spark then to change other five. I used my tool (see attached picture) to remove driver site actuator.
Eclou said “ If you can do this, you can probably jerk-off a hamster blindfolded” and he was right -hamster was very happy.
I’ve also replaced coil packs and changed brake fluid.

Why isnt you pdf listed in the DIY section here on 6speed???

I have a copy but it should almost be printed in A5 and added to the 997 manual

Thanks! I am not an administrator...so best I could do is post as an entry in the DIY topic...which I did.

To the previous post...On the driver's side, I was able to get the plugs out without removing the actuator. It is actually easier (much) to lower the motor....Two 18 mm nuts and a stand....That actuator is NEARLY impossible to remove...and install. Just FYI. Also looks like you had all the right tools based on the photo!

Well, I decided to go to the dealer and get this done, I don't have a lift or even a jack.... I must admit they did a fine job charging 4 hours labor and replacing the coil packs under CPO. Can't complain about that!

big thanks Rock. finally got around to doing this last week (after a year of procrastinating).
my plugs were shot, and every single coil pack was cracked. thats exactly 1 year after ownership (previous owner had the plugs changed right before i bought the car).

im ready for the hamsters.

I would say a great deal of it. It gets you through to accessing and lowering your motor etc...Beyond that, I do not know as I have not needed to change my injectors...but this should get you pretty close...

Yes, it is possible to do the plugs without lowering the engine. I did them with a friend who is a professional mechanic. Neither of us knew about the method with the lowered engine, despite some research through forums.

4 plugs can be done in less than an hour, the remaining two took two hours eacheven when you have removed the obstructing parts

. Getting some of the coils back in was another big issue if you don't remove all of the obstructions. The boot would hang up in the spark plug hole making it impossible to push the coil in without risking damage.

In the end, it was very educational. I would definitely lower the engine next time.

Well, it looks like I’m getting closer to starting this project.. A few questions for therock88.. I used your write-up for the front bumper removal – worked like a champ! Thanks! - I posted a thread in the 997 forum with some pics.

1) My original thought was to use the factory plugs , but I see you used different ones. It looks like this was because of your tune.. I have a FVD tune and was wondering what plugs I should use or just stick with OEM?

2) Same Q’s on the coil packs – why did you switch part #s?

3) I’m fairly certain that I will drop the engine to make it easier, since it looks like it’s just the 2 bolts – I assume the hoses will stretch a little, and as long as you don’t drop it too far it should be okay?

4) Regarding the headers: Where did you get your replacements? I assume for performance reasons? Do you think you have to remove them completely (from the block & turbo) or could you just unbolt them from the flange of the turbo? And this is just so the turbo can wiggle a little bit for 2 of the plugs?
