First Track Day with 997tt
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share my experience with my 2008 997tt. I was over at The Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington couple weeks back. It was the first time driving on the track with this car and with basic bolt-ons , KW V3's, BBS LM-R, and Cup 2's this car was a beast.
I did get a lot of under steering in some tighter sections but overall it was a very confidence inspiring car to drive on the track.
Hope more people would bring out these cars and treat them more than just a grand touring car.
It's worth it, trust me!
Cheers

Nice! You've got a roll bar and helmet also. Probably a great choice outside the mods that you mentioned.
Most should learn the car in its stock form first prior modding for the track. Car in stock form does well. Learn the adjustments you want to see first.
If your expierenceing understeer, How are you braking into the turns? Think about the load of weight transfer (center pivot point) within the cars body frame. Engine is in the rear and this may creep up on you depending on the turn.
This really helped me understand the cars natural reaction under load. I now understand when the car is about to sit around a corner and lay on the throttle at this point. This is pretty important with a turbo due to timing.
You may want to look into stiffer sway bars. I run a GT3 front bar with GT2 rear sway. This gives a lot of adjustment for over and understeer.
Glad to see another track success. Look like you had a lot of fun out there.

Awesome and the car looks great! Some minor set up changes and alignment tweaks will make the car tighter and more stable. No more under-steer! Feel free to hit me up and I can advise you on what to do.

Just my $0.02 but you car is more than likely perfectly fine. The 'understeer' you're describing is likely due to a phenomena common to new track drivers called 'early apexing'. Put another way, you are turning in too early as you anticipate the turn. Early apexing has the effect of reducing/shortening the trackout area which results in you running out of track mid-corner (the same feeling as understeer), which is exacerbated in tighter corners as you describe. You end up making more steering adjustments to negotiate the corner and exit the turn.
I wouldn't change a thing on your car. On your next track visit, pay particular attention and adjust your turning points into corners, being more patient attacking the corner. If you need to, go a bit slower into the corner (lower entry speed) and apex appropriately. You should notice a difference.
I wouldn't rush to mod the car (especially suspension parts) until you've had a few track days. Hope this helps.

Perfect! Thanks for the heads up, I've been too used to driving my Corvette powered 240sx on the track so I'that might also be why.
Thanks for the tip!
