anyone else tired of replacing liftgate/hatch struts?

I have had these replaced twice now and it seems like a real pain in the butt to get to the struts through the headliner. They have failed again (shocker) and I'm pretty much to the point now that I'm thinking of installing some sort of generic lift gate struts on the sides. has anyone here done this?

Before buying OEM Stabilus struts - always ask of the manufacturing date. Many times, the parts sit on store shelves for years. I won't buy any strut that ends on 07 or sooner.

I quit replacing mine. It's ridiculous how often these fail. Did you notice the new Cayenne's have them installed on the sides instead of under the headliner? LOL
