Rear mounted turbos wtf
Rear mounted turbos wtf
Sort of off topic, but not as much as you would think as I hear there are more and more big blocks running around with these lately. I've never even heard of this until recently. What do you guys know about this?

Seems kind of pointless to me - any benefits of the lower temps will be negated by the pressure drop with all that tubing. Turbos get way hotter than any other thing in the engine, I doubt they are really affected by engine bay temps (the air may be, but not the turbo). Plus, an intake sitting on the bottom of the car, and the turbo being almost the lowest point of the car, do not strike me as great ideas. Maybe for a drag only car or something...
Still though, kind of a cool innovation. I still think the steam driven turbo concept is the coolest (use steam from exhaust temps to drive a turbine instead of the exhaust gas pressure).

Anyway, IMHO this is not a bright idea.
I guess it works pretty well from what I've heard. Basically they say that the intake tract is no longer than if you had a normal intercooler system, which this system doesn't need. They claim the exhaust is denser, and run smaller exhaust turbines combined with lower boost to make up for it .So lag isn't that bad. I dunno enough to argue one way or another, just thought it was pretty cool. Obviously it's not going to make more power than a "real" turbo setup, but I guess it's easier to install, cheaper, etc.

sat and watched one of these get installed on Hot Rod TV I belive, great idea, sounds like it was pretty effective. We'll see how the technology advances

I work part time for a Turbo Drag race team, Paisley racing at www.craigpaisley.com. So I have alot of knowledge in building turbo motors. Why try and reinvent the wheel?

why not try to do something different, if people didn't try to reinvent stuff the world would be pretty dull.
Since you work for a drag race team it should be pretty obvious to you how this works
