911 fan from Texas!
Hello, All!
Looking to buy a 911 for the first time! I know NOTHING about them, other than I've always wanted one. Not looking for anything new. I'm looking at anything from a late 70s to a late 80s model SC. No turbo -unless, it's too good to pass up (however, I think I should start without one). Don't want a ragtop, and don't really want to spend more than $30G? Don't know how realistic this is to get one in decent shape. I don't care about the mileage, and just want one that was babied and taken care of.
I currently have a 93 VR6 Corrado, which I love (and have owned for 19 years) But I'm starting to get nickel and dimed by it. I think it's time for an upgrade and thought by asking questions here.
Are there certain years within this range that I should stay away from?
thanks for reading!

Buy 1978 or later. The major changes were in 1984 when they introduced the 3.2 Carrera and then in '86 when they upgraded to a G50 transmission. As always, buy the best car with the amount of money you want to spend. Service history will be critical and a good PPI will be money well spent. Some people find the 1978-1983 SC's to be a raw car compared to the 1984-1989 Carrera's. With 30k you should be able to find a very good Pcar. If the car has been properly maintained, mileage shouldn't be a huge concern with the car. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask and welcome to 6Speed!
