Range 2 Over-revs

What do you do when you find your car has been Range 2'd at the shop (besides finding a new shop).
My tech added 16 Range 2 Over-Revs during his test drive. At least he was honest enough to say it got away from him in first gear, and he came clean about it.
Secondly, what do you do about valets?

What was the car in the shop for? Was it something that the car may have needed rev'ed to identify the issue?

Most chiptuners (including myself) have valet programs limiting speed, boost, rev limit....ect.

There is no reason for any shop to type 2 over rev your car. 16 times says they were trying to break it. If you had a factory warranty, Porsche will not honor it once they plug the car in. If the next person who wants to buy your car does a PPI, they will likely pass due to the exessive abuse to the car. Looks like you are stuck with this one.

I thought you could get 16 overrevs just from one very short instance of mis-shifting. Doesn't it count the number of ignition cycles or something?

You can easily get 16 counts in one overrev "event". I think the consensus is that it counts ignition cycles while the rpm is above the type 2 limit. 16 cycles happen in a tiny fraction of one second.

7000 rev X 3 ignition X min = 350 ignitions
min rev 60 sec sec

I can't get HTML to format my math correctly, sorry. It's supposed to be 7000 rev/min times 3 ignition/rev times min/60 sec equals 350 ignitions/sec.

If I haven't screwed this up, there are 350 ignitions per seconds at 7000 rpm. So at 7000 rpm, 16 counts would take 0.046 seconds. I added 12 type 2 counts to my car by hitting the limiter in 1st gear. I did not miss the shift!

NOTE: I do not know what the Type 2 rev threshold is. I expect it's more than 7000, though.

I thought you meant 16 individual one's.
Ok, 1 Type 2 over rev would void your factory warranty. I would never buy a car that has a type 2 over rev in it's computer data file. What mechanic are you taking your car to and who is driving it that would drive it like that?

haha, ive DEFINITELY had a couple range 1s on the track...but they were all in HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY braking zones (like from 5-2/1 shifts) and ususally when shifting into second as alot has to happen in a very short amount of time...haha

Yes, but everybody has range/type 1 overrevs. The money shot type 2 is always due to either abuse, user error or both.

Did he do a money shift or just hit the limiter hard like midnightTT did?

My guess would be hitting the limiter hard. That seems to be too short of a time to do any damage.

The only point I would consider is the resale value with now 16 type 2's instead or 0.

Bzzzzzt, wrong answer, but thanks for playing. I added 12 type 2 counts when the tires broke traction in 1st at about 5500. The engine was on the rev limiter in less than an eyeblink. No abuse, no error. Just abrupt loss of traction during acceleration.

Unless you consider full throttle to be abuse. In that case, maybe I can interest you in a nice Prius.

Call Todd Z at EVO. He swears these cars are bullet proof. Some Range 2 ignition hits are fine. Don't sweat it. The tech admitted it and quite frankly anyone can bang the rev limiter by accident.

Range 2's don't happen in acceleration. They happen in missed/down shifts.
No prius's for me, thanks.

My personal experience, based on before and after Durametric scans, says range/type 2s can happen from acceleration. Prove that wrong.
