What Makes MOPAR's 1,000 HP Hellephant Engine Special
Slideshow: 1,000 horsepower can now be yours. All thanks to MOPAR and a little crate engine that will have you screaming.
Sink Your Tusks In
The Hellephant borrows its name from one of the biggest animals on earth and rightfully so. This heavy hitter will stomp out 99.9% of the competition you will ever find on the street. Displacement is 426 cubic inches with turbochargers thrown out the window in favor of a supercharger.
Bulls on Parade
With an all aluminum block, this engine is lightweight and relatively compact. Everything fits under the hood of the 1968 Charger that the engine was presented in. The car is clean itself, but it’s without a doubt the engine that is the crown jewel of this build. Torque comes in at a staggering 950lb-ft.
1st to be 1st
This is the first time an OEM package has been offered at this power level, so it will be interesting to see how enthusiasts take to the new offering. It will certainly be cheaper than a 911 or Z06, which means for certain builds, this is actually a bargain.
The Price of Power
Hellephant engines will be available to tuners sometime around the first quarter of 2019. Prices haven’t been announced though you can expect them to be substantially higher than the already 6.2-liter V8 Hellcrate that goes for $20,000.
V8 Strong
This new crate engine can certainly be seen as Mopar taking the fight to the current crop of European supercars that aim to raise the bar with each Nurburgring outing. It’s great to see the muscle car giant enabling enthusiasts to go fast on the cheap and taking the performance game to new levels. We just hope they send us one to test!
