Putting together a $100k race-ready B58 engine is a lot of work. However, the team at Papadakis Racing has finally done it.

The never ending Supra saga continues as Papadakis Racing finally has completely the 1000 HP Supra engine. Their goal of making the BMW B58 handle massive power has come surprisingly quick. Usually platforms like this take several years even decades of development before they are able to accomplish these types of power figures. However, the team at Papadakis Racing had no time to waste so they really kicked the whole process into overdrive.

If you haven’t been keeping up with our Supra-related content, we have articles about both the initial teardown of this engine and the production of the forged components as well. As stated previous, this build has been a hell of an investment for the team and getting the research and design for these parts done so quickly costed an excess of $100k. Let’s tune in to the PapadakisRacing YouTube channel to see this engine get put together and come to life.

As the engine begins to be assembled, the crank goes in first. This is the stock crank from the B58, as the team was confident that the stock forged crank will be more than sufficient to make big numbers. The first developed part to go in the fresh B58 is the forged JE pistons and chromoly Carillo rods. The pistons have a special heat-resistant top coating and side coating as well.

Due to the higher boost pressures they planned to run on this engine, the team was also worried about the head studs, so ARP made them a custom set that has a higher torque rating and rigidity. This set uses a innovative knurled washer system that prevents additional weigh from being transferred onto the soft aluminum. Moving onto the upper portion of the engine, this head has Supertec valves, springs, retainers, and keepers which are rated for high horsepower. In addition, the head has been ported for additional airflow.

After installing all of the complex valve train, the valve cover is finally installed. They wanted to give the engine a little more unique of a flavor so they decided to Cera-coat (powder-coating for plastic) the engine a deep blood red. After assembling the custom 3D-printed aluminum intake manifold and custom exhaust manifold the engine is ready to go! Next up will be the dyno for this engine and we can’t wait to see what its capable of.
