911 GT3 RS Launches off Malibu Canyon Road, Rolls 100 Feet

GT3 RS driver cruising canyon roads in Southern California loses control and winds up down the side of the mountain in someone’s yard.
Most of us love these cars for the same reason. They’re built to be monsters in the corners, and we all want to enjoy them the way Porsche engineers intended for them to be enjoyed. Unfortunately, as many Porsche owners (and former owners, in some cases) are aware, buying the car doesn’t buy you the skill to drive it on edge. Furthermore, many folks go ahead and try anyway. As is the case with this 911 GT3 RS, they can find out rather quickly that they’re not cut from the ten-tenths racing fabric.
According to CBS News, this Porsche 911 GT3 RS was cruising around the Santa Monica Mountains near Malibu, California, in the late afternoon. For those unaware, the curving, winding roads outside Los Angeles are quite popular for spirited, scenic drives. That said, some folks can get a little too confident in their abilities, and that may just be the case, here. The article reports that the GT3 RS went off the road in the mountains and rolled about 100 feet before coming to a stop.

An Expensive Lesson, but Nobody Was Killed
Interestingly, the news article says firefighters reported that “two to three” people were inside the car. If you aren’t familiar, the GT3 RS has a roll cage where the back seats would be in standard 911s. So, if there was a third person in there, they weren’t in a seat. Regardless, the article states that firefighters transported two passengers to the hospital by ambulance and that nobody was trapped inside the car when they arrived on scene.
Reportedly, a BMW M5 was stopped at the scene, and an unidentified red sports car was parked further up the road at a turnout. Presumably, these cars were part of a group of GT3 RSs that wound up in the dirt. Ultimately, it looks like this might be a classic case of a cruise going a little too far and pushing someone beyond their capabilities. Peer pressure and wanting to keep up is a hell of a drug! So, remember, folks: having the car doesn’t give you driving skills. Play responsibly and drive within your means. Otherwise, we might be writing an article about you next.
